INDIANOLA, PA - The Toledo (2-1) women's soccer team claimed a 2-1 victory at Pittsburgh (2-1) on Sunday at Founders Field after junior Diana Ginley's header found the net in the game's final 23 seconds.
"This was a great win for our program," Toledo Head Coach Brad Evans said. "We played a solid game, especially in the first half."
The Rockets got on the board first capitalizing on a corner kick in the 25th minute of play. Junior Kristy Wilson deflected the ball into the goal off a corner kick taken by sophomore Suzi Siwinski.
The Panthers refused to waiver in their efforts and in the 66th minute of play Kristina Francois was able to tie the score. The Panthers worked the ball in the middle, stringing together several passes working towards the goal. Jacqueline Reuter and Jennifer DeLaHoz connected on passes and then DeLaHoz fed the ball to Francois, who placed a shot past Toledo junior goalkeeper Jen Whipple.
Just as regulation time was about to expire, Toledo seized the victory with a goal in the 89th minute of play. The clock read 23 seconds remaining when the Rockets capitalized on their second corner kick of the day. Siwinski's corner kick met the head of Ginley, who was able to direct the ball into the net past Pitt goalkeeper Jamie Pelusi.
Toledo returns to action on Friday, Sept. 9 when the Rockets host Valparaiso at 5:00 p.m. at Scott Park.
