TOLEDO, OH - The University of Toledo baseball team (13-29, 4-11 MAC) dropped the rubber match of its three-game Mid-American Conference series with Miami (26-14, 9-4 MAC) by a 14-2 margin at Scott Park.
RedHawks' starter Keith Weiser (7-2) kept the Rocket hitters off-balance for the first five innings, retiring 15 of the 16 batters he faced. Weiser's only blemish was a two-out walk in the third inning to UT junior 2B Matt Ruth. Junior Nick Szczur (2-4) took the loss for Toledo after surrendering six runs (four earned) on five hits in 2.1 innings of action.
The Rockets fell behind early as the RedHawks jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings to chase Szczur.
Miami then scored one run in the fourth, three in the fifth, one each in the sixth and seventh and two in the eighth to take a 14-0 advantage.
Toledo finally broke up the no-hitter in the seventh inning on a bunt single by senior Shawn Hurst.
Senior Jarrod Resendez accounted for the Rockets' first run in the eighth with a RBI double.
Toledo could muster only one more run in the ninth on a RBI single by freshman Nate Pretzlaf to make the final 14-2.
Ryne Robinson, a 2003 graduate of Toledo Central Catholic High School, paced Miami's 15-hit attack collecting three hits with two RBI and two runs scored, while teammate Geoff Orr pounded out two hits and four RBI.
The Rockets will have the next four days off to focus on final examinations, before returning to action next weekend for a three-game series at Buffalo. The first game will be Friday, May 7 at 3:00 p.m. followed by a 1:00 p.m. start on both Saturday and Sunday, May 8-9.
