Women's Soccer: Lindsay Basalyga Hired As Assistant Soccer Coach

TOLEDO, OH - Former University of Maryland soccer player Lindsay Basalyga has been named an assistant coach for the Rockets women's soccer program, University of Toledo Head Coach Brad Evans announced today.
"I'm very excited to work at Toledo and for Brad," Basalyga said. "This is a great chance for me to move closer to home and bring my knowledge of the game and the experiences I picked up in the ACC to Toledo."
Basalyga is a 2001 Maryland graduate with a degree in art studio. She comes to Toledo following an outstanding career for the Terrapins, where she was a four-year letterwinner (1996-99) and three-year starter at forward and in the midfield. Basalyga played in 84 games as a Terp, 10th-most of any player in Maryland history. She scored eight goals, assisted on nine and recorded 25 points in her four years. Basalyga helped Maryland qualify to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances, advancing to the second round three times.
Basalyga closed her career in grand style scoring all four of her season's goals in Maryland's two NCAA Tournament games. As a senior, Basalyga played in 21 games, scored four goals, led the team in assists with six and finished with 14 points, third best on the team. A native of Cincinnati, OH, Basalyga was a star athlete at Turpin High School. An all-city and all-league first team selection as a senior, she was named to the Cincinnati Enquirer and Cincinnati Post all-star team following the season. Basalyga was also a member of the Olympic Development US Region II Team for six years.
Basalyga will continue her studies at Toledo, pursuing a master's degree in sports management.
