Toledo, OH - Awards were divvied out to 15 players at the 2001 University of Toledo Football Banquet held at the UT Student Union on Friday, Dec. 14.

Highlighting the awards was the naming of senior defensive end Leo Frierson (Fostoria, OH) as the Jim Nicholson Award recipient. The Nicholson Award, named for UT's first full-time coach Jim Nicholson, is given to the player most contributing to the success of the team, as determined by a vote of the players.

Double-awardwinners included Todd France (Maumee, OH), who won the Senior Scholar-Athlete Award and the Outstanding Sepcial Teams Player Award, and Corey Morris (Berkley, MI), who was named the Outstanding Whip/Rover and earned the Hammer Award for the most hard tackles.

* Outstanding Offensive Back (2): Chester Taylor (Sr., River Rouge, MI) and Tavares Bolden (Sr., Cleveland, OH)
* Outstanding Receiver: Dontà Greene (Jr., Springfield, OH)
* Outstanding Defensive Lineman (2): Jake McLean (Sr., Grand Ledge, MI) and David Bockmore (Sr., Strongsville, OH)
* Outstanding Linebacker: Sid Daniels (Sr., Duquesne, PA)
* Outstanding Whip/Rover: Corey Morris (Sr., Berkley, MI)
* Outstanding Defensive Back: Andy Boyd (Sr., Toledo, OH)
* Outstanding Special Teams Player: Todd France (Sr., Maumee, OH)
* Jim Nicholson Award (greatest contribution to team's success): Leo Frierson (Sr., Fostoria, OH)
* Iron Man Award (most dedicated in weight room): Tom Ward (Jr., Defiance, OH)
* Norman Cohen Award (top freshman): Nick Kaczur (Fr., Brantford, ONT)
* Jon Binder Award (top walk-on): Brian King (Jr., Berea, OH)
* Senior Scholar Award: Todd France (Sr., Maumee, OH)
