Notes
Toledo Head Coach Tom Amstutz
On the penalties:
"We have some things to work on. We need to clean up some of the penalties and fumbles. Obviously, we did not play a very polished game. We battled hard and made the plays that we needed to win the game."
On Navy's quarterback Brian Madden:
"I really respect their quarterback (Brian Madden). He is tough and he really plays hard. He is a battler and a fighter."
On the performance of Chester Taylor:
"Chester ran the ball hard behind our offense line, which battled hard and blocked well."
On Navy:
"They run a good, tough scheme with their offense, which is tough to prepare for. They are a good football team. I spent three years at the Naval Academy. Those men are tough. They kept on battling, even though they haven't won a game this year. I really respect those young men and their coaching staff."
Chester Taylor
"It felt good. The offensive line did a great job today. They worked hard all week. We picked it up tonight and it showed. Thank God for the win."
Andy Boyd
"This was a big win because it was another close game and it got us back on the winning track."
Tavares Bolden
"The balance of passing and rushing was very good tonight and it helped us flow throughout the game."
"Our offensive line was really solid. We had good tempo and good pushing up front. It really helped us get the running game going."
Navy Head Coach Charlie Weatherbie:
"Chester Taylor is an All-American type player. He is as good a running back as we've faced all year, including Boston College's William Green. He is a more physical player than Green."
"Turnovers killed us in the fourth quarter. We let Chester have 200 yards rushing."
Navy Quarterback Brian Madden:
"We haven't brought home the wins. We let Toledo back in it and we beat ourselves."
"We can't turn over the ball and expect to beat a good football team."
