HUNTINGTON, WV - The University of Toledo women's soccer team suffered its sixth consecutive loss Sunday, as Marshall blanked the Rockets 3-0 at Sam Hood Field.
Today's loss was devastating to UT and crucial for the Herd as only the top eight teams make it to post-season play in the Mid-American Conference. After Marshall (8-6-1, 5-4-1 MAC) defeated Bowling Green on Friday and Toledo (5-9-1, 4-6-1 MAC) lost at Ohio on Friday, the teams were virtually deadlocked for the seventh-place position in the conference coming into today's match.
Marshall took control of the match early, scoring in the first ten minutes of the contest. The Thundering Herd's Amanda McMahon rifled the ball into the back of the net on a nice run. Lindsey Jayjack and Sarah Gupton had assists on the play.
Marshall's next score did not come until the 54th minute of the match when McMahon struck again, scoring her second goal of the afternoon from 20 yards out on the ground. Kelly Posey assisted McMahon on the goal.
Danielle Lowther added another MU goal to wrap up the scoring with only five minutes remaining in the match. McMahon had the assist to finish off her productive day.
The Herd dominated the match outshooting the Rockets, who today tied the school record for consecutive losses set during the 1995 season, 20-5, and holding them to only three shots on goal.
The Midnight Blue and Gold will return to action on Friday, Oct. 26, as they will host Akron in their final conference game of the season. Kick off is slated for 3:00 p.m. at the Soccer Field at Scott Park.
