Football: Rockets Bounce Back With 41-0 Romp Over CMU

Toledo, OH - Senior tailback Chester Taylor ran for 152 yards and two touchdowns as Toledo rolled to an easy 41-0 victory over Central Michigan at the Glass Bowl on Saturday.

The shutout was the first ever for Toledo against Central Michigan and the 41-point margin of victory was the largest by the Rockets over the Chippewas. It was also the second shutout of the season for UT.

Toledo scored on its first three possessions and never looked back. Taylor started the scoring off with a 23-yard touchdown run with 10:25 to play in the first quarter. Todd France kicked a 31-yard field goal on Toledo's next possession, then quarterback Tavares Bolden made it 17-0 on a five-yard run.

The Rockets added touchdown runs by Taylor and backup tailback Antwon McCray in the second quarter to give Toledo a 31-0 lead at intermission.

Toledo outgained CMU in total yards, 457-168. CMU managed just eight first downs to 29 for the Rockets.

Taylor's performance was his fourth 100-yard performance of the season and 12th of his career. Wide receiver Mel Long caught five passes to give him 148 career receptions, the most in Toledo history. Long passes Don Fair, who had 143 catches from 1969-71.

The victory moves Toledo's record to 4-1 and evens the Rockets' MAC West Division record at 1-1. Toledo travels to Eastern Michigan next week before returning home to face Marshall on Oct. 14.
