Kevin Grant Named First-Team All-MAC

Cleveland, OH - Junior jumps specialist, Kevin Grant was named first-team All-Mid-American Conference, the league office announced on Monday, May 22. The All-MAC teams were selected by the league's head coaches.
On the men's side, Paul Sehzue and Bi HongYong were named second-team All-MAC while Emily Loroupe and Kia Minkkinen were named second-team All MAC for the women.
Grant (Toronto, Ontario) was the only Rocket individual champion in the outdoor season. He won the long jump competition with his leap of 24-11 (7.59m) on his last jump in the competition. Grant, the top ranked jumper in the conference, overcame early foul trouble and was only in sixth place entering his last jump. His final leap of the competition gave him the championship by only two centimeters. Grant's jump of 24-11 places him fifth all-time at Toledo.
Sehzue (Akron, OH) finished second in the 110-meter high hurdles and the 400-meter intermediate hurdles (51.88) at the MAC Outdoor Championships. He is currently ranked fourth on Toledo's all-time list in both the 400-meter and the 400-meter intermediate hurdles with times of 47.71 and 51.88, respectively.
At the Outdoor MAC Championships, HongYong (Beijing, China) placed second in the high jump with a jump of 6-10 3/4. HongYong ranks fifth all-time at UT in the high jump with a height of 7-0 1/2.
Loroupe (Nakuru, Kenya) provisionally qualified for the 2000 NCAA's in the 10,000-meter run by running a 35:23.37 at the Penn Relays, which was good or a 10th-place finish. Loroupe is also of the top-10 all-time performers in Mid-American Conference history in the 10,000-meter run. Loroupe's runner-up performance time of 35:32.21 at the Mid-American Conference Championships ranks her as the sixth all-time meet performer in that event as well. The junior is now second ranked on the UT all-time performance list in the 10,000-meter (35:23.37) and the 5,000-meter (17:12.11).
Also breaking into the all-time list for the conference is freshman sensation Kia Minkkinen (Turku, Finland). Minkkinen's runner-up performance time of 4:31.08 in the 1,500 meters at the conference championships makes her the 10th ranked performer in MAC Conference meet history. Minkkinen hold Rocket records in the 1,500-meter (4:31.08) and the 3,000-meter (9:46.82). She is also ranked third in the 800-meter with a time of 2:13.32).
The men's track team finished eighth at the MAC Outdoor Championships, while the women finished sixth, their highest finish since 1993.
