Tim McCann won 12 MAC championships in his career and earned All-America honors in 1997 as part of the 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams. At one point in his career he held four MAC records: in the 100 backstroke, in the 200 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay. In 1997 he took first place the MAC's in the 200 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay. In 1998 he took first place the MAC's in the 100 backstroke, 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay. In 1999 he took first place the MAC's in the 100 and 200 backstroke, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay. He was an Olympic Trial participant in 2000. McCann won the Bob Fountain Award in 1998 and 1999 as the team's top swimmer. He is the school record-holder in the 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke, 400 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.
