Richard Huston

Dick Huston won varsity baseball letters in 1942, 1946, 1947, and 1948 and varsity football letters in 1941, 1942, and 1947. He was a back both offensively and defensively in football. He scored a then record 27 career touchdowns, 15 of those runs were for 40 or more yards. In 1947 he won the Toledo Blade's award as most outstanding player in the Glass Bowl Game. One newspaper reference mentions his running a time of 9.9 seconds for 100 yards. An outstanding student as well as an athlete, he returned to The University as an assistant football coach, while he worked on a master's degree. In 1973 he was honored by the National Collegiate Athletic Association as one of 11 Silver Anniversary Award winners, an honor recognizing his outstanding college athletic achievements and his postgraduate success as an administrator in Toledo public schools. He worked as a teacher while completing work on a doctorate degree at the University of Michigan.
