Dr. Hein would follow in his father's footsteps by interning at St. Vincent's Hospital in Toledo. After his service with the United States Air Force, he returned to establish orthopedic residency at Ohio State University. Dr. Hein started practicing medicine in Toledo in 1951 and started working with athletes the next year. DeVilbiss and Start High Schools, as well as Toledo Tornado's pro team were on his list of calls. Being recognized as a top orthopedic surgeon and a valuable asset to all high school athletes of the Toledo Public Schools, Dr. Hein was named "Ohio High School Team Physician of the Year" (1976). Most recently Dr. Hein was inducted into the Toledo High School Hall of Fame and the National Trainers Association as an honorary member. The University of Toledo is blessed to have such a dedicated professional to serve its athletes.
