Leigh Ross was one of the best hitters in the nation during her four years at UT. She hit .426, .370, .353 and .447 in each of her four seasons as a Rocket. The .447 and .426 marks are the two best season batting averages in school history. As a senior in 1991, Ross was selected second-team All-American and first-team All-MAC. She finished fifth in the nation in batting average (.447) and was first in stolen bases (44). As a junior she led the team in runs (36), hits (65) stolen bases (23) and was second on the team with a .353 average. As a sophomore, she was second in the MAC with a .370 batting average, and led UT in batting average, stolen bases (21), runs (29) and hits (77). As a freshman she hit .426, which was the highest mark in Rocket history at the time. Ross was also All-Mideast Region all four years. She also was named first-team All-MAC in her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. She ended her career first in the UT record books in batting average (.398), hits (296), total bases (311), and stolen bases (107), all of which still stands today. A native of Ottawa Lake, MI, Ross also ranks among the top 20 in NCAA softball in hits with (296). She played on the 1989 MAC Championship team that made it to the College Softball World Series. The Rockets were 136-105 during her four-year career
