Larry Jones competed for the Rockets between 1960-64 and earned a total of eight varsity letters; three in track, two in basketball and three in baseball. Jones earned Second-Team All-MAC honores in 1961 followed by First-Team All-MAC accolades in 1962 in basketball. He also served as a team captain in the 1961-62 and 1963-64 levels. Jones is still written into the record books with the second highest career points per game average (20.9), third in points per game in MAC games (21.2), as well as ninth for career rebounding average (9.0). Jones also ranks fourth in highest single-season average per game (23.3), fourth in points per game in MAC games (24.2) and fourth in free throws (166). Jones scored 1,315 points in his career.Â
Jones enjoyed a lengthy career in the American Basketball Association, was a four-time All-Star, and became the first player in its history to score 5,000 points. Jones was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers and played two years in the NBA.Â
