John Allen lettered in cross country (1934-35) and track (1936) and has contributed over 50 years of service to The University of Toledo's Varsity "T" Club and other university fundraising organizations since his days as an athlete. Allen was the treasurer of the Varsity "T' Club and served as president from 1962-65. Through the club, he helped raise funds for the Varsity "T" Club Weight Room, located in the Larimer Athletics Complex. Allen also helped establish the Varsity "T" Club Scholarship fund. He was active on the Membership Committee since 1950. In 1989, the Varsity "T" established the Hummel-Allen Award, which is presented annually to the outstanding senior athlete.
