Jerry Bush was head basketball coach at The University of Toledo leading the rockets to seven winning seasons between 1947-1954. Born in Brooklyn, New York and a graduate of St. Johns University, Jerry won All-American Honors as a collegiate player and played professional basketball until 1946. He was on five National Pro League championship teams and was All-League five times.
He led the Rockets to their first MAC title, NCAA appearance and went 127-58, a winning percentage of .686 (6th all-time among UT coaches and second in league history) during his time at Toledo. Bush ranks fifth on the list of career coaching victories and eighth for single season winning percentage (21-5, .808). In 1951 Toledo joined the Mid-American Conference under Jerry Bush and went 27-9 overall within the next three years. Many of UT's greatest individual players were Jerry Bush's Boys, including Hall of Famers Cal Christensen, Chuck Harmon, Phil Martin, and several more who are considered for Hall of Fame membership each year. Jerry Bush left Toledo to become head coach at The University of Nebraska.
