Wyper lettered in football during the 1965, 1966, and 1967 season and also lettered in wrestling in 1966, and 1967. He was a unanimous first-team All-MAC and honorable mention All-American. He later signed with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. He finished fourth in the 191-pound weight class at the 1967 MAC wrestling tournament and compiled a 12-6-2 record during the season. He finished third at the prestigious 4-I Tournament in Cleveland in 1967. Wyper also was a successful wrestling coach at Toledo's St. Francis High School. His teams had a combined record of 45-6 with four city championships, four sectional titles, three district crowns, and two state finishes from 1970-75. His 1970 team was runner up in the state finals. He is a past president and board member of the Varsity "T", a member of the Rocket Club, and a sponsor of the Clarion Real Estate "Player of the Game" scholarship award given after each Rocket home football game. Wyper is a graduate of Toledo Bowsher High School.
