Dick Torio came to Toledo from New Jersey as a football fullback. Although he did letter in football as a linebacker in 1950, Dick quickly became one of the Rockets' All-time wrestling greats. He lettered in wrestling in 1951, 1952, and 1953 and won All-America Honors in two of those years in two different weight classes. He was also a Mid-American Conference champion and a National AAU and National YMCA Champion. Dick assisted fellow UT Hall of Famer Joe Scalzo in coaching the wrestling Rockets for many years. He was honored by the Alumni Association with the highest honor it can bestow for many years of loyal service to UT.
