Charles Cupp won varsity basketball and baseball letters in 1935, 1936, and 1937. He led the team in scoring in 1935. During the 1937 season he was named captain and was second in team scoring. Although no baseball records exist for the period in which he played, newspapers referred to him as the star of the Toledo team at first base, an excellent hard hitter and the best defensive player in the infield. After graduation, he played first base for one of the country’s best baseball teams during World War II ---the Great Lakes Naval Training Station team which included such professional stars as the immortal Bob Feller.
