Al Alvarez

Al Alvarez lettered in basketball in 1937-39 on teams that finished 18-4, 14-6, and 17-10. He lettered in baseball in 1938 and 1939 as a catcher. Alvarez was the sixth leading scorer in basketball as a sophomore, third highest as a junior and second highest as a senior, starting on the same team with all-American Chuck Chuckovitz. Alvarez was a high school coach at Bradner, Bellevue (where in 1946 his team won the state championship), and at Toledo Whitmer until leaving coaching to become assistant principal at Whitmer. Alvarez also was a professional baseball umpire in the old International League
