Toledo, Ohio - Head men's tennis coach Al Wermer and the University of Toledo are proud to announce the second annual Dream Academy. The six-week camp runs every Friday between June 22 and July 27 at the University of Toledo varsity tennis courts. The camp is aimed toward local underprivileged kids and hopes to get them excited about their own education and career possibilities. 
 
"We had a great first year last summer," head coach Al Wermer said. "I expect even more participation from Toledo student-athletes, coaches, and important individuals from around campus who can spread their knowledge and share in a positive experience with our campers."

The program will offer campers professional-level coaching from both Wermer and women's tennis head coach Tracy Mauntler. Each day will start with on-court instruction followed by a presentation from an unique Toledo community member. The program aims to grow children's interest in education while exposing them to different possibilities and community members.
 
In Wermer's words, It's about 'planting a seed and building the desire to go to college', while mixing in tennis. Wermer hopes to build an internal drive and strengthen the camper's appreciation for learning.
 
Wermer got the idea for his program from seeing how other youth camps operate and realized the University of Toledo has the resources necessary to help grow and educate the surrounding community.

The camp is open to boys and girls entering the seventh and eighth grades. Tennis racquet, snacks, lunch and a t-shirt will be provided for campers.

Kids interested in being a part of the Dream Academy must write a short personal interest and determination statement on why they want to be in the program. The camp costs $12.00 per child with a possible fee waiver available. Campers must also commit to attend at least five of the six academy dates.
