Toledo Sweeps Weekend with 5-2 Win Over Ball State

Muncie, Ind - The Toledo women's tennis team (13-5, 3-2 MAC) earned its second win of the weekend after winning, 5-2, over Mid-American Conference opponent Ball State (8-9, 0-4 MAC) today. Toledo's victory was full of mid-match rallies and featured two tiebreaks.

"I couldn't be more proud of the team for what they accomplished this weekend," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "To take down the defending MAC regular-season champs on their courts is a big deal. The players' unwavering belief in each other is what makes this group special."

The Rockets started the day by claiming the doubles point. After UT loss in the No. 3 spot, the duo of senior Colleen O'Brien/sophomore Dee Dee Leenabanchong combined in the No. 2 spot to earn their 14th-straight doubles-match victory, defeating their opponents 6-3. Senior Sidnay Huck/junior Kokoro Chishaki linked up in the No.1 spot, clinching the point with their 7-5 victory.

Toledo's top four went lights out during singles competition. Chishaki won her fourth-straight singles match, sweeping her opponent 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 4 spot to wrap up the first singles match of the day. Huck played in the No. 2 spot. She took the first set 7-5 and was down 2-5 in the second when she rallied to 5-5 and 6-6 ties to force a tiebreak. When the smoke cleared, her score line read 7-5, 7-6(4).

Leenabanchong lined up in the No. 1 spot, winning her first set 6-3 but dropping the second 3-6. The Bangkok, Thailand native rallied in the third, sweeping the set 6-0 and clinching the Rockets' victory. O'Brien earned Toledo's final point of the day with a convincing match tiebreak victory, going 7-6, 5-7, 10-3.

The Rockets return to the courts on Friday, April 13 when the team travels to Eastern Michigan for a 1:00 p.m. contest. Toledo then returns home on Sunday, April 15 to host Western Michigan at 1:00 p.m. on the UT varsity tennis courts.
