Toledo, Ohio - The Toledo women's tennis team (10-5, 0-2 MAC) will host Northern Illinois (5-11, 0-2 MAC) this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Shadow Valley (Maumee). Sunday's match is the Rockets' third of the Mid-American Conference season and the first conference match being played at home.
Toledo hopes to bounce back from losses against Buffalo and Akron to start the MAC season, and head coach Tracy Mauntler is looking forward to playing back at home.
"I am thrilled to be home this weekend," Mauntler said. "The Thursday-Friday road trip was a tough way to start MAC play so it's nice to be back home. We've been playing great tennis all year long and it's unfortunate that we didn't play well last weekend, but I think we have set some goals that will challenge us at practice over the next few weeks.
"I'm confident in this group and the way they've worked all year long," Mauntler added. "It all goes back to the hard work during the week and their belief in each other on the weekends. NIU is the reason we didn't make the tournament last year and so there is definitely some motivation to play our best on Sunday."
The Rockets last saw the Huskies in the middle of the 2016 conference season. UT lost the match 4-3 with points coming from sophomore Claire Aleck, junior Megan Miller and junior Colleen O'Brien during singles play. Toledo and NIU have been neck and neck recently, the programs splitting their last six meetings.
UT is coming off 5-2 losses to both Buffalo and Akron to start off the conference season. Despite the opening weekend difficulties, O'Brien and sophomore Dee Dee Leenabanchong were able to hold on to their perfect doubles record and extend their winning streak to 13 victories on the year.
