EUGENE, Ore. - The Toledo softball team swept its final two games of the Oregon Invitational on Saturday at Jane Sanders Stadium. The Rockets defeated Bryant, 5-2, and pulled out a 6-5 win over Montana on a walk-off single by sophomore
Samantha Golden. With two wins today, UT finishes the weekend at 2-2 and is now 12-11 on the season.
Toledo 5, Bryant 2
Freshman Bekah Yenrick hit her first career home run and the Rockets were the beneficiary of three bases-loaded walks on the way to their win over Bryant. Sophomore
Samantha Golden recorded one of the Rockets four hits and scored a pair of runs to lead UT. Toledo drew a season-high 13 walks in total.
Junior
Heather Webb went the distance to earn her sixth win in the circle. Webb allowed two runs on five hits while striking out four.
How it Happened
- The Rockets drew three walks in the opening inning to load the bases, but could not come through with a two-out hit to score.
- Junior Katie Cozy walked to lead off the third and scored on an error by the Bryant pitcher. Golden and senior Ashley Rausch walked to load the bases. Sophomore Morgan Paaverud and freshman Kylie Norwood both walked on four pitches to force in runs two and three of the inning.Â
- Bryant plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning. A single and two walks loaded the bases and a two-run single up the middle cut Toledo's lead to 3-2.
- Both pitching staffs settled in and put up zeros in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.Â
- Yenrick led off the top of the seventh with a solo shot to right field to put Toledo up 4-2. Golden doubled to left center and moved to third on an infield single by Rausch. Junior Kaitlyn Bergman walked to load the bases and Norwood walked with the bases loaded again to bring in another insurance run.
- Webb retired the side in order in the seventh to snap a six-game skid for the Rockets.
Toledo 6, Montana 5
Sophomore
Samantha Golden delivered a walk-off single with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of seventh inning to cap off the Rockets spring break trip with a win.
Toledo battled back from a 5-1 deficit and tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to set up the dramatic finish. Freshman

Katie Cozy each had two hits in the game, junior Kaitlyn Bergman hit her fourth home run of the year and junior
Megan Choate drove in three runs with a clutch double in the sixth.
How it HappenedÂ
- Montana opened the game with a lead off triple and scored its first run on a Toledo error. Two singles and another UT error brought in two unearned runs and set the Rockets in an early 3-0 hole.
- Toledo chipped into the lead with a two-out rally in the bottom of the first. Freshman Bailey Curry walked and scored all the way from first on an RBI double by Cozy to make the score 3-1.
- The Grizzlies took their largest lead at 5-1 with two runs on four hits in the fourth frame.Â
- Toledo answered with Bergman's solo blast to cut the lead to 5-2.
- In the sixth, Cozy singled and was pinch run for by freshman Brittney Davis. Freshman Bekah Yenrick singled and Golden was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Choate then cleared the bases with her double to left center field.
- After junior Heather Webb shut down Montana in the seventh, Curry walked to start the bottom half. Freshman Raelyn Nyren pinch ran for Curry and advanced to third on a Grizzlies error. Bergman was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Golden's single to left field sent the Rockets home a winner.
The Rockets head to Mroehead, Ky. for the Eagle Classic next weekend. Toledo will play East Tennessee State, Morehead State and Oakland during the two-day event.
