Rockets Open Season with 7-0 Victory Over Chicago State

MAUMEE, Ohio – Toledo opened its spring season with a 7-0 victory over Chicago State at the Shadow Valley Tennis Club.

"Our win today gives us a very solid start to our season," said head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "We have a goal to get better every time we step on the court and today we did that."

The Rockets posted convincing victories at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles with senior Sidnay Huck, sophomore Mimi Kendall-Woseley and senior Colleen O'Brien each dropping just three games in their matches.

Sophomore Dee Dee Leenabanchong posted a three-set win at No. 4 singles, while junior Kokoro Chishaki needed a tiebreaker in the first set en route to a 7-6, 6-0 win.
Toledo split two doubles matches with Chicago State with the Rockets gaining the doubles point due to the Cougars defaulting at No. 3 doubles. Junior Thalita Rodrigues teamed with Kendall-Woseley for UT's 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles.

UT returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 21 with a trip to East Lansing, Mich. to face Michigan State. The Spartans posted a 4-0 win over Xavier and a 7-0 victory over Grand Canyon today.
