Toledo, Ohio – The recruiting class of the University of Toledo volleyball program has been nationally-recognized by PrepVolleyball.com by appearing in the website's High Honorable Mention listing of top incoming freshmen. The ranking is the second time in the last three years the Rockets' recruiting class has been recognized.
Â
The Rockets have signed four student-athletes for 2017 – outside hitter Caleigh Barhorst (Fort Loramie, Ohio), defensive specialist/outside hitter Rhyen Neal (Yorktown, Ind.), outside hitter Emma Swope (Fredericksburg, Va.) and outside hitter/middle hitter Chloee Kleespies (Lincoln University, Pa.).
Â
"It's nice to be recognized for the incoming recruits we have joining our program," Toledo Head Coach Greg Smith said. "A variety of college coaches from around the country contribute to this ranking which tries to measure the classes' impact, not just as freshmen, but their entire collegiate career."
Â
Toledo will begin practice for its 2017 campaign on Tuesday, Aug. 8 and meet Oakland in an exhibition match in Savage Arena on Friday, Aug. 18 at 6:00 p.m. The Rockets open their regular season at Fort Wayne, Ind. with the Fort Wayne Invitational on Friday-Saturday, Aug. 25-26. UT will face SIU-Edwardsville, Quinnipiac and the host Mastodons during the two-day event.
Â
The Rockets will then host a pair of tournaments during their non-conference schedule. UT will entertain Notre Dame, Southeastern Louisiana and VCU as part of the BG/UT Invitational on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 1-2 before hosting New Mexico, Tennessee Tech and Youngstown State in the Blue/Gold Invitational on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 15-16.
