Five Rockets Earn Academic All-MAC Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Toledo men's tennis had five student-athletes earn a spot on the 2017 Academic All-Mid-American Conference squad, the league office announced on Monday. Sophomores Vince Anzalone, Juan Carranza, Serjen Olmedo, Reid Teatsorth and Luka Vitosevic were selected due to their outstanding efforts in the classroom, as well as the courts, in 2016-17.

Toledo is tied with Ball State for the school with the most athletes represented. It is also the most honorees UT men's tennis has had in a single season, and the first time a Rocket has earned this award in three years.

"These guys should feel really great about this achievement!" said Head Coach Al Wermer. "They've all done an outstanding job balancing their work, minimizing distractions and keeping their priorities straight."

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
