MILWAUKEE, WI – Toledo was narrowly defeated by Marquette, 4-3, in a non-conference match up on Friday evening.
Â
Toledo jumped ahead of the Golden Eagles by notching the doubles point.
Stjepan Sisko and
Thawin Suksathaporn battled to a 7-5 victory at No. 1, and
Stephen Miller and
Omar Espinosa secured a 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot.
Â
"Our doubles performance tonight was the best I've seen so far this season," said head coach
Al Wermer. "We need to keep improving."
Â
Sisko downed his opponent, 6-1, 7-5, at his usual spot at the top of the lineup. Espinosa recorded a 7-5 victory in his opening set at third singles, but his opponent answered back with a 7-5 win of his own. He then powered through to a 6-2 victory to record Toledo's third point.
Â
"It's fantastic to see Omar getting healthy and finding his game," added Wermer.
Â
Unfortunately, Marquette defeated UT at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 to tie up the match. The Golden Eagles clinched the victory in a three-set battle at sixth singles.
Â
Toledo will battle Green Bay on Sunday, Feb. 5 at 12:00 p.m. to close out this weekend's competition.
