TOLEDO, OH – The Toledo men's tennis team (1-3) bounced back from a 7-0 loss to Valparaiso on Saturday afternoon to record its first victory of the season over Wright State, 6-1.
 
"It's frustrating for our team to have so many injuries this early on in our season," said head coach Al Wermer. "But with that being said, it gives more of our guys playing time, which will be a good thing come later in the season."
 
Junior Omar Espinosa, sophomore Reid Teatsorth and freshman Thawin Suksathaporn knotted the score against their Valpo opponents but didn't have enough in the tank to defeat the Crusaders.
 
Toledo jumped out in front of Wright State with the help of a very strong showing of its doubles teams. Senior Stjepan Sisko and Suksathaporn claimed their second victory as a doubles team this season (6-2). Junior Stephen Miller and sophomore Juan Carranza followed up with a 6-2 defeat over Wright State to secure the doubles point. The sophomore pair of Vince Anzalone and Teatsorth were on their way to a victory, 5-3, until their match went unfinished.
 
Then, nearly every Rocket up and down the lineup recorded a victory over their opponent in straight sets.
 
The Midnight Blue and Gold will look to keep this momentum going next weekend when they host Duquesne on Friday, Jan. 27 at 1:00 p.m.
