Rockets Explore Rome and End Their Trip in Split

Rome, Italy – The Toledo men's tennis team ventured to Rome, Italy for some sightseeing and took a trip to the Coliseum, Vatican, Pantheon and Piazza Navona. The team walked for miles and explored the ancient city ruins, learned about centuries of Roman history and ate some incredible local food. Fans can explore their tour of the Coliseum in the video on their Facebook page, Toledo Rockets Men's Tennis.

The team ended their trip with more exploration in Croatia. The paragraphs below are accounts told by head coach Al Wermer and sophomore Vince Anzalone.

Head Coach Al Wermer: "It's been a privilege to see the excitement on these guys' faces. Each day these guys experience first-time, hands-on, enviable, and stunning experiences. Their stories and memories will last forever.
We had a great, hard-fought victory over Teniski Klub Dalmacijacement, 7-5. This gave us a chance to test our week of red clay training at the hands of some experienced players from Split area. Vince and Omar had outstanding runs."

Sophomore Vince Anzalone (Willoughby Hills, OH): "The past few days in Croatia have been one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Today we went to see the Klis Castle a famous monument and real castle that was constructed in the 13th century. I also found out that the Klis castle is where the HBO show Game of Thrones is filmed and they also had a picture gallery from scenes in the show.
Also seeing Bacvice beach and the attractions around it are a part of the Croatian lifestyle that I can appreciate so much. Along the beach there is a few miles of Boardwalk with restaurants along the beach that wrap around the sea. It is a breathtaking sight to say the least and something that is so enjoyable to be able to drink soda and look at the beach while relaxing.
The past few days we have eaten at restaurants around split and the food has been phenomenal and surprisingly affordable. For instance, the first that that we were here, we ate seafood against the sea of Split and it was some of the best that I have ever had in my entire life. Croatia also serves bread with almost every meal along with olive oil on the table to complement the bread. Along with the excellent seafood and tasty bread, I have also had some excellent pasta in Croatia especially their clam and shrimp sauce pasta.
With the wonderful sights, historical monuments, beautiful beaches, great food, and friendly people Croatia is the best trip I have ever taken. I am extremely grateful that the University of Toledo has given me the opportunity to take this trip with my teammates and I am very excited for the days to come here in Europe."
