TOLEDO, OH – Junior 2B Chandler Rice has been selected as the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week. This is the first time Rice has received the award in 2016 and the first time a Rocket has been awarded this season.
"It's an honor for Chandler to receive this award and I'm very proud of her," said head coach Kristen Butler. "She's a well-deserving player who works extremely hard and is a great leader for our team. We had a few great games last week and I think it will set the tone for the rest of MAC play; I'm expecting Chandler to continue being a huge part in our success."
Last week, the Louisville, OH native started all four games at second base and had a dominant presence at the plate. Rice posted a .545 batting average (6-for11), scored five runs and recorded 15 total bases. The junior notched a double, a triple, two home runs and five RBI. She also swiped a bag in three of the four contests.
Rice leads the team with 18 RBI and five home runs this season. She has also posted a team-high .564 slugging percentage with 54 total bases.
Rice and the Rockets will take on Eastern Michigan on April 13 at 2:00 p.m. at Scott Park.
