Rockets Sign Emma Swope and Chloee Kleespies for 2017 Season

TOLEDO, OH – Head Coach Greg Smith announced the signing of outside hitter Emma Swope (Fredericksburg, VA) and right-side hitter Chloee Kleespies (West Grove City, PA) to National Letters of Intent. Swope and Kleespies will begin attending UT at the start of the 2017-18 academic year.

"We are extremely excited about the signing of Chloee and Emma," said Coach Smith. "They are both going to add so much to what we have already here within the program."

Swope is a four-year varsity starter from Massaponax High School who was named conference Player of the Year in 2014 and 2016. She earned first-team all-conference, first-team all-area, first-team all-region and second-team all-state honors for three consecutive years. Swope registered 489 terminations in her senior campaign, which ranks eighth all-time in Virginia's record book and first all-time at Massaponax. She has tallied 1,298 career kills, which also puts her first in Massaponax's records and ranks her second in the state. Swope ranks second all-time at her high school and fourth in the state in career service aces with 174. She also holds Massaponax's record in single-game kills with 27 and comes in second in career digs with 633.

Kleespies is a four-year letterwinner from Avon Grove High School where she was a first-team All-Chestmont and first-team all-district selection for four-consecutive years. Kleespies was also named to the PIAA AAAA All-State team as a junior and senior. She also lettered in basketball and track and field. Kleespies plans on majoring in biology at UT.

"Chloee is a very versatile six-rotation player that will be on the right side for us but is one who can play on the left side as well," said Coach Smith. "Emma is another six-rotation player who can play all three front row positions and has all the qualities that we are looking for in our student-athletes. We are really looking forward to having both Chloee and Emma in the gym for the next four years as they will help elevate the program's success with their play and volleyball IQ!"
