TOLEDO, OH — Standout Central Michigan setter, Kelly Maxwell, has been hired as an assistant women's volleyball coach at the University of Toledo, Head Coach Greg Smith announced on Friday.
Â
"We're very thrilled to welcome Kelly to our staff," Smith said. "She was a very impressive setter at CMU so we're excited to have her direct and train our setters. Kelly will bring a competitive fire to the team and an enthusiasm for the game."
Â
Maxwell comes to UT after serving as a volunteer assistant coach at Central Michigan for one season. Prior to her work at CMU, Maxwell spent six months as an assistant coach and setter coach for the Legacy Volleyball Club National Teams and U-17 team.
Â
"I'm extremely excited for this opportunity," Maxwell said. "Over the years as a conference rival, I have seen Greg establish great work ethic and passion in his teams. I feel very fortunate to be able to join this program and to be a part of the University of Toledo. I'm ready to get in the gym with the players and make an impact as a coach."
Â
Maxwell was a three-year starter and two-year captain during her time as a Chippewa (2010-13). She completed the 2011 and 2012 seasons ranked in the top 15 in assists in the country, and finished third in school history in career assists 3,512. Maxwell was named to the 2011 MAC All-Tournament Team, and was a member of a class that beat every MAC team in their four years.
Â
A native of Okemos, MI, Maxwell graduated from Central Michigan University in 2015 with a degree in elementary education.
