TOLEDO, OH – Toledo men's tennis will look to improve on its 0-2 record this weekend when it travels to Valparaiso, IN to battle the Crusaders. The Rockets will match-up against Valpo on Jan. 23 at 3:00 p.m. before travelling to Columbus, OH to take on the No. 8 Ohio State squad on Jan. 24 at 6:00 p.m.
"We know Valpo is about as strong as anyone in the MAC, so this will be a nice test on our progress," said head coach
Al Wermer. "In Columbus we will focus on improving our games and appreciating the opportunity to play a perennial top-10 team."
The Rockets will try to make up for last year's Valpo-OSU weekend, where UT fell 5-2 against the Crusaders and 4-0 against the Buckeyes.
Toledo attended Valpo's Invitational in October but the Rockets only matched up against the Crusaders once. Sophomore
Omar Espinosa and freshmen
Juan Carranza defeated Danny Oakes and Lucas Waak 6-4 in the flight A doubles. UT did not face OSU this fall.
Last weekend, the only Rocket victories came from two freshmen. Luka Vitosevic defeated Michigan State's Mac Roy 6-7, 6-4, 10-4 at No. 2 singles and then Vitosevic paired up with Serjen Olmedo to defeat Purdue 5-3 in the No. 3 doubles spot.Â
