Post-Game Notes - UMass Game

Toledo Post Game Notes
Toledo vs. UMass – Sept. 10, 2022
  • Toledo moved to 2-0 for the first time since 2017. The Rockets went 11-3 and won the MAC Championship title that season.
  • Toledo’s defense relinquished its first points of the season when UMass scored a touchdown with seven seconds left in the first half, snapping a streak of nearly six scoreless quarters. The Rockets shut out LIU last week, 37-0.
  • The Rockets' 45-point margin of victory was their largest since a 45-0 victory against Murray State on Sept. 14, 2019.
  • The Rockets held UMass to 253 yards of total offense, including just 48 passing yards. The last time Toledo held an opponent to fewer than 100 passing yards was Bowling Green last season when UT held the Falcons to 67 passing yards.
  • Peny Boone scored his first two touchdowns as a Rocket, both in the first half. He had two TDs for Maryland in 2021.
  • Junior Devin Maddox grabbed an 11-yard TD catch in the second quarter in his first action of the season. He sat out last week’s opener vs. LIU with an injury.
  • Sophomore quarterback Dequan Finn completed 12-of-26 passes for 177 yards and one TD. He also ran for a team-high 74 yards and a career-high tying two scores. Last week against LIU, he threw for two touchdowns and ran for one.
  • Three Rockets (Boone, Finn, Jacquez Stuart) scored rushing touchdowns, the first time that happened since last year at UMass (Finn, Bryant Koback, Micah Kelly). The last time Toledo had two Rockets score at least two TDs apiece was Finn and Koback vs. Bowling Green last year.
  • Junior linebacker Dallas Gant was the co-leader for Rockets with nine tackles (Jamal Hines and Rourke Freeburg also had nine stops), one week after racking up a team high 11 tackles in the season opener.
  • Senior defensive tackle Desjuan Johnson had six tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss, giving him 4.5 TFLs for the season.
  • Junior Thomas Cluckey made field goals from 43 and 27 yards, giving him a perfect 5-for-5 mark for the season.
