Post-Game Notes vs. VMI

  • Toledo’s 63-point margin of victory is its largest since 1951, when UT defeated Davis & Elkins 88-0, and the third-largest margin of victory in program history.
  • The 66 points are also the most in a UT season opener since the Davis & Elkins matchup in 1951 and the 10th time in team history the Rockets have eclipsed 60 points.
  • Sixty-six points mark the sixth time under head coach Jason Candle that the Rockets scored at least 50 points, and the second time they scored at least 60.
  • The 42 points in the first half marked the seventh time Toledo has scored at least 42 in a half.
  • UT has now won five consecutive home openers by a combined score of 214-58.
  • In his first game as Toledo’s starting quarterback, junior Mitch Guadagni completed 11 of 16 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore Eli Peters, senior Jalen Reese, and freshman Carter Bradley all saw time at quarterback as well.
  • Toledo is the first FBS program ever to return three wide receivers who have earned all-conference accolades and caught at least 10 touchdown passes in a season. All three receivers -- Diontae Johnson, Jon’Vea Johnson, and Cody Thompson -- caught a touchdown pass today.
  • Thompson scored the Rockets’ first touchdown of the season on a blocked punt, the first blocked punt return for a TD since 2001 (Correy Morris vs. Western Michigan).
  • True freshman defensive end Jamal Hines led the Rockets in tackles with seven.
  • Redshirt freshman Bryant Koback made his Rocket debut, rushing for 67 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Bailey Flint averaged 43.8 yards per punt and totaled 263 yards punting, the second-most in a game in his career.
  • Toledo was a perfect 6-for-6 in the red zone and five of those scores were touchdowns.
  • The Rockets start the season off with 603 yards of total offense in the season opener. They tallied at least 600 yards of offense four times last season.
