With today’s win, UT improves to 3-0 for the second-consecutive season and third time since 2001.
The Rockets are now 2-0 at home this year and 25-7 in the Glass Bowl since the start of the 2011 season.
Toledo scored a season-high 52 points against Fresno State. Through the first three games, the Rockets are averaging a whopping 42.7 points.
Toledo finished with a decisive 619-254 edge in total yards. The Rockets’ 619 yards are a season high. UT utilized a balanced attack against Fresno State, posting 318 yards passing and a season-best 301 yards rushing. Through the first three games this season, UT is averaging 563.7 yards of total offense.
UT ran a season-high 83 plays and held a commanding 27-7 advantage in first downs. The Rockets also held a decisive 36:16-23:44 edge in time of possession.
Toledo forced Fresno State to punt 12 times, tied for fourth most in a single game in school history. The record is 13 punts on three occasions. Most recently, UT caused an opponent to punt 12 times vs. Eastern Michigan on Nov. 17, 2001.
UT’s defense was perfect on the money down, holding the Bulldogs to 0-of-13 on third-down conversions. Conversely, the Rockets were an efficient 8-of-15 (53.3 percent) on third down. Through the first three games, Toledo is converting an efficient 59.6 percent (28-of-47) on third down.
UT was a perfect 6-of-6 in red-zone chances. Through the first three contests, the Rockets are an impressive 11-of-12 (91.7 percent) inside their opponents’ 20-yard line.
Senior RB Kareem Hunt carried the ball a game-high 19 times for a contest-best 123 yards, including a seven-yard TD run in the second quarter. With today’s effort, Hunt topped the century mark for the first time this season and 21st time in his collegiate career, the second-highest total in school history.
Hunt also moved into sole possession of third place in school history with 36 career rushing touchdowns.
Junior QB Logan Woodside completed 15-of-26 passes for 239 yards and four touchdowns. Woodside has now thrown at least three TD passes in each of the first three games this year and in six of his last nine games played, dating back to the 2014 campaign. The Frankfort, KY native now has 11 touchdown passes through the opening three games this year.
Redshirt freshman RB Art Thompkins had a season-high 15 rushes for a season-best 103 yards, including a one-yard TD plunge in the fourth quarter. Thompkins has now hit pay dirt in each of the last two games.
The Rockets had two rushers (senior Kareem Hunt & redshirt freshman Art Thompkins) top the century mark for the first time this season and first since junior Terry Swanson and Hunt turned the trick against Northern Illinois on Nov. 3, 2015. Hunt finished with a game-high 123 yards against FS, while Thompkins had 103.
Junior WR Cody Thompson caught a team-tying best four passes for 102 yards, including a 36-yard TD reception in the first quarter. Thompson surpassed the century mark the second time this season and sixth occasion in his collegiate career. The Huron, OH native has now reeled in a TD catch in each of the last four games, dating back to last season.
Senior TE Michael Roberts finished with three catches for 48 yards and two touchdowns. Roberts was credited with a nine-yard TD reception in the first period and a six-yard scoring catch in the third. He has now caught a TD pass in each of the first three games this season.
Senior WR Zach Yousey closed the scoring with a 62-yard TD reception from junior QB Michael Julian in the fourth quarter. Two of Yousey’s four career catches have gone for scores. He was also credited with a 14-yard TD catch against Eastern Michigan on Oct. 17, 2015.
Senior DL Treyvon Hester recorded a collegiate-best two quarterback sacks in the first period. Hester finished with a team-tying best five stops, including a career-tying best 2.5 tackles for loss. He also had 2.5 tackles for loss against Arkansas State in the GoDaddy Bowl on Jan. 4, 2015. Through the first three games, Hester has surpassed his season total for sacks from each of the last two years. He had 2.0 sacks in 2014 and 2.5 sacks last fall.
Senior DE John Stepec posted 2.0 tackles for loss and a squad-tying high five stops. Stepec was also credited with a team-equaling best two quarterback hurries.
Sophomore PK Jameson Vest booted a 22-yard field goal in the second quarter. Vest has now successfully kicked a field goal in each of the first three games this season.
Sophomore WR Jon’Vea Johnson hauled in an 18-yard TD catch on UT’s opening drive in the third quarter. Johnson has now caught a TD pass in each of the last two contests.
Toledo did not allow Fresno State to get a first down in the opening quarter. The Bulldogs posted eight yards on 12 plays in the first 15 minutes. FS averaged 0.67 yards per play in the period.
UT scored 10 points in the second quarter. The Rockets have now outscored their opponents 41-0 in the second period through the first three games this season.
Toledo didn’t surrender a first down until Fresno State’s second drive of the second period and sixth drive in the game. The Bulldogs went three-and-out on six of their first seven possessions.
Junior DL Marquise Moore made his first start of the season and finished with one tackle.
Junior DE Zach Quinn made his first start of the season and posted two stops.
Junior LB Ja’Wuan Woodley was credited with his first sack of the season in the third period. Woodley finished with four tackles and one quarterback hurry.
Toledo’s defense recorded five sacks in the non-conference contest, while the offense did not allow a sack for the third-straight game.
