Post-Game Notes
With tonight’s loss, Toledo falls to 18-2 against MAC East Division opponents since 2010. The Rockets’ most recent loss to a cross-division foe came against Akron, 31-29, on Nov. 29, 2013.
UT’s setback snapped a 12-game winning streak in the series against Ohio. The Bobcats’ last win in the series was a 24-14 home triumph on Oct. 1, 1988. Ohio’s most recent triumph in the Glass City was 20-14 on Sept. 16, 1967.
Toledo sustained its first loss at home versus a MAC East Division school since a 27-13 setback against Miami on Oct. 26, 2002.
Junior QB Logan Woodside completed 32-of-46 passes for 438 yards and three touchdowns, including a program-best 98-yard TD pass to sophomore WR Jon’Vea Johnson in the third quarter. Woodside’s completions and attempts are a career high, while his passing yardage is second most as a Rocket. With tonight’s effort, Woodside now has a UT single-season record 31 TD passes, surpassing the all-time mark of 29 set by Bruce Gradkowski in 2003 and 2005. Despite tonight’s strong numbers, Woodside had his string of six-straight games with at least four TD passes snapped.
Sophomore WR Jon’Vea Johnson caught six passes for 156 yards, including a program-best 98-yard TD catch in the third quarter. Johnson was also credited with a 10-yard TD catch in the fourth period. Tonight marked the second time he has topped the century mark and scored more than one TD this season.
Senior WR Corey Jones hauled in a season-tying best and team-high seven passes for a season-best 115 yards, including a 48-yard TD reception in the third quarter. Jones topped the century mark for the second time this season. He has caught at least seven passes in three of the last four games.
Senior WR Corey Jones (115 yards) and sophomore WR Jon’Vea Johnson (156 yards) each topped the century mark in tonight’s MAC cross-division match-up, signifying the second time this year two Rockets had at least 100 yards receiving. UT also had two players with 100 yards receiving at BYU on Sept. 30.
Senior DL Treyvon Hester was credited with his team-high fifth sack of the season on Ohio’s opening drive. Hester finished the cross-division match-up with three stops, two quarterback hurries, one fumble forced and one fumble recovery.
Sophomore DE Ola Adeniyi recorded his 3.5 sack on Ohio’s second possession, the second-highest total on the season. Adeniyi wrapped up the contest with seven tackles, his second-best effort on the year. He totaled a season-high eight stops at Arkansas State on Sept. 2.
Junior LB Ja’Wuan Woodley recorded his squad-best second fumble forced in the first period. Woodley also posted a career-tying best 3.0 tackles for loss, one sack and nine stops, his second-best output on the year. He had a season-high 12 tackles at BYU on Sept. 30.
Toledo was held scoreless in the first quarter for only the third time in 2016. The Rockets also did not score in the opening 15 minutes against Arkansas State (Sept. 2) and most recently Eastern Michigan (Oct. 8).
Sophomore PK Jameson Vest booted a season-best two field goals, converting a career-long 47-yarder on the final play of the second quarter and a 29-yarder earlier in the same period. It was also Vest’s sixth multi-field goal effort as a Rocket. Vest’s previous best effort was 44 yards at UMass on Oct. 24, 2015.
Senior FS De’Juan Rogers totaled a team-high 10 tackles, signifying his second game with double-digit stops this year. Rogers was also credited a tackle for loss in the third period. His career high is 12 stops at BYU on Sept. 30, 2016.
Sophomore WR Jon’Vea Johnson was a credited with a program-best 98-yard TD reception in third quarter. The previous long offensive play in school history was 96 yards by Bruce Gradkowski to Kenny Higgins vs. Ball State on Oct. 2, 2004. Johnson’s scoring catch is also tied for the second-longest offensive play in MAC history.
Senior DE John Stepec totaled five stops, a season-tying best 2.0 tackles for loss, a fumble forced in the third period and a squad-tying best two quarterback hurries. Stepec has now totaled at least 2.0 tackles for loss in each of the last four games and seven overall occasions this year.
Toledo posted 560 yards of total offense (438 passing, 127 rushing), marking the sixth time the Midnight Blue & Gold has accumulated at least 500 yards in 2016.
