The definitive student-athlete, Ned Miklovic participated in two varsity sports as well as being actively involved in many student organizations. He joins many past Varsity "T" Hall of Fame inductees to have successfully managed this balance. Miklovic, who co-captained both the football, and basketball teams, is one of few players in Rocket History to start in both sports for three seasons. At 6-4 and 210 pounds, Miklovic was one of the bigger UT athletes of his time. As a member of the football team, he was the starting punter and right defensive end, and a receiver on offense. He lettered in '56, 57' and 58', serving as co-captain his final season. In his career, Miklovic averaged 36.0 yards per punt and caught three touchdown passes while averaging over 30 minutes per game. However, his best sport proved to be basketball. His first year (1956-57), he was the team's leading rebounder (9.0) and third-leading scorer (7.4). Miklovic's play surged during the latter part of the 1957-58 season, as he finished with an average of 9.8 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. In a game against Ohio University that season, he pulled down 27 rebounds, a school record and on the ninth-best mark in conference history. Miklovic was valued as a team leader and known for his enthusiasm in all sports in which he participated. Sidelined by a shoulder injury during the 1958-59 season, he returned to co-captain the 1959-60 squad. The Rockets were ranked as high as 11th in the AP poll, finished with an 18-6 record and ranked 12th in the nation in scoring defense (58.1). Miklovic is 11th in Rocket history with 371 career rebounds in MAC games, an average of 8.1 per contest. Miklovic's academic record was impressive as well. As an undergraduate, he was elected to the Blue Key and Who's Who In American Universities and Colleges, and recognized as the 19559-60 Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year. Miklovic was also president of the DNW Club and Varsity "T", and highly ranked military student in the ROTC.
