Post-Game Notes
  • With today’s victory, the Rockets improve to 19-3 at home under fourth-year head coach Matt Campbell. UT is now sporting an eight-game winning streak at the friendly confines of home.
     
  • Toledo improves to 6-0 on the year, 3-0 in the MAC, and is now sporting a nine-game winning streak, dating back to last season. It marks UT’s longest winning streak since the Midnight Blue & Gold won 12 straight contests over the course of the 2000 and 2001 years.
     
  • UT piled up a season-high 611 yards of total offense (238 rushing, season-best 373 passing) against Eastern Michigan. The Rockets’ previous best effort was 518 yards against Kent State last Saturday. UT is averaging 564.5 yards of total offense over the last two games.
     
  • The Rockets posted a season-high 63 points, signifying their largest regular-season output since they totaled 66 points against Western Michigan on Nov. 8, 2011. UT also totaled 63 points against Arkansas State in the GoDaddy Bowl on Jan. 4, 2015.  
     
  • Toledo's 63 points marked the fifth consecutive game in the series in which the Rockets have scored at least 50 points vs. EMU.
     
  • UT scored 56 unanswered points against EMU after spotting the Eagles an early 6-0 lead.
     
  • Toledo scored a season-high 28 points in both the second and third periods, topping its previous top mark of 24 at Ball State in the second quarter on Oct. 3. UT’s 28 points scored is also tied for third-most in school history in one quarter. The Rockets have now scored 28 points against EMU in a single quarter on four occasions in school history in 2002, 2003 and most recently 2012.
     
  • UT held EMU without a point in the third period. The Rockets have not allowed a single point in the third quarter this season, outscoring their opponents 52-0. 
     
  • Toledo did not allow a sack for the sixth consecutive game, a string of 206 pass attempts without a sack this season.
     
  • Toledo lost only his second fumble of the season late in the fourth quarter.
     
  • The Rockets were an efficient 7-of-12 (58.3 percent) on third-down conversions. UT entered today’s game ranked sixth in the MAC, converting 43.6 percent (35-of-84) on third down this season.
     
  • Toledo’s defense gave up only its second TD of the season in the red zone. The Rockets entered today’s game leading the MAC in red zone defense, limiting their opponents to 30.8 percent (4-of-13). 
     
  • Sophomore RB Terry Swanson averaged a staggering 24.2 yards on four carries, including a nine-yard scoring run in the second quarter. Swanson has now scored a TD in three of the last four games. He was also credited with a career-long 90-yard burst in the second quarter, marking the fourth-long run in school history and the longest that did not go for a score. He finished with a team-high 97 yards rushing.
     
  • Junior RB Kareem Hunt carried the ball nine times for 45, including a four-yard TD scamper in the second period. Hunt has now scored a TD in each of the last two contests.
     
  • Junior RB Damion Jones-Moore rushed the ball nine times for 82 yards, including a 21-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. Jones-Moore has now scored a rushing TD in seven of the last eight games, dating back to last season.
     
  • Senior QB Phillip Ely completed 18-of-27 passes for a season-high 327 yards and a career-tying best four TDs. Ely has now thrown multiple TD passes in each of the last three games. His previous best effort was 308 against Arkansas State on Sept. 26. The Tampa, FL native also tossed four TD passes against New Hampshire on Aug. 30, 2014.
     
  • Junior WR Corey Jones totaled a team-high seven catches for a season-high 90 yards, including a 55-yard TD reception on the opening possession in the third quarter. Jones has now caught at least four passes in five of six games this fall.
     
  • Senior S Chaz Whittaker was credited with his team-tying best second interception of the season in the second quarter. The Rockets have now picked off a pass in four of six games this fall.
     
  • Junior TE Michael Roberts reeled in a nine-yard TD catch in the second period. It was Roberts’ second TD reception of the year. He finished the game with a career-high four catches for 48 yards. Roberts has now caught a TD pass in each of the last two games against EMU.
     
  • Sophomore WR Cody Thompson posted a career-best 88-yard TD catch in the third quarter. It was the fourth-longest TD reception in school history. Thompson finished the game with two receptions for 110 yards, topping the century mark for the second time as a Rocket. He had a career-best 112 yards receiving against Arkansas State on Sept. 26.
     
  • Senior WR Alonzo Russell finished with three catches for 43 yards, extending his streak of consecutive games with at least one catch to 44. With today’s effort, Russell moved past Nick Moore (2005-08) into seventh place in school history with 183 career receptions.
     
  • The Rockets’ defense totaled a season-high 12.0 tackles-for-loss, including a team-high 2.0 each by senior LB Chase Murdock and senior DL Orion Jones. Ten different players recorded a stop behind the line of scrimmage for UT. Toledo’s previous best effort was 10.0 tackles-for-loss against Iowa State on Sept. 19.
     
  • Junior FS Delando Johnson made his first start of the season in place of classmate DeJuan Rogers and totaled a game-high 11 tackles. Johnson came into today’s game with five stops on the year.
     
  • Senior DE Allen Covington recorded QB sack in third period and finished with four tackles.
     
  • Sophomore LB Ja’Wuan Woodley blocked a field-goal attempt in the second quarter and senior LB Chase Murdock picked up the ball and raced 45 yards for the Toledo score. Woodley was also credited with six tackles, including a QB sack in the third quarter. As a team, the Rockets blocked a kick for the third time this season.
     
  • Junior LB Jaylen Coleman left the game with a right leg injury with at the 11:20 mark in the first quarter. Coleman was carted off the field and did not return. He entered today’s contest leading the team with 48 tackles and one interception.
     
  • Sophomore RG Nate Jeppesen made his first start of the year in place of junior Mike Ebert. Ebert had started the first five contests.
     
  • Senior defensive back Rolan Milligan totaled a season-high eight tackles and forced a fumble in the third quarter.
     
  • Sophomore QB Michael Julian completed 4-of-6 passes for 46 yards, including a 14-yard strike to junior WR Zach Yousey for his first collegiate touchdown pass in the third quarter.
