TOLEDO, Ohio – University of Toledo women's swimming and diving Head Coach Jacy Dyer announced the hiring of John Stewart and Sam Heywood as assistant coaches for the program on Monday.

Stewart joins the Rockets after serving as the interim head coach for Delta State, a NCAA Division II program in Mississippi, during the 2024-25 season. He trained sprint, mid-distance and distance groups as well as handled logistics for road meets and tournaments including itineraries, hotels, meals and transportation during home and away meets.

"I'm so excited to welcome John as a part of our staff," said Dyer. "He is a hard worker and brings a lot of knowledge and passion for coaching. He will make an immediate impact here, and I can't wait for this season to get started!"

Stewart was a student-athlete at Delta State, helping lead the Statesmen to five-straight New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference (NSISC) titles. He was named an NCAA All-American and was a five-time NSISC Individual Champion. He also assisted the strength and conditioning staff, working with six programs on campus including swimming & diving and football.

"I am extremely honored and excited to be joining the University of Toledo Swimming and Diving program," said Stewart. "I want to thank Jacy, the athletic department, and everyone involved in the hiring process to give me this opportunity. The University of Toledo is truly a special place both athletically and academically. I am very eager to get to work to help the student athletes."

Stewart holds an MBA and bachelor's degree in psychology from Delta State University.

Heywood joins the staff after swimming collegiately at Bowling Green. Prior to joining the Rockets, she was coaching at the Greater Toledo Aquatic Club and high school teams.

"Sam will bring such incredible energy and positivity to this team," said Dyer. "She brings so much heart, empathy and first-hand knowledge to this program and I can't wait to see the impact she will make."
