FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Toledo softball team dropped a pair of games to Columbia and Florida Gulf Coast on the opening day of the FGCU Spring Break Classic on Friday in Fort Myers, Fla.
In the 2-0 loss to Columbia, the Lions scored twice in the second inning and that held up as the final score.
Sophia Knight went the distance in defeat, allowing just five hits while blanking Columbia over the final four innings. Toledo was held to three hits, one each from
Sidney Griffith,
Jenna Bloomfield and
Payton Abiley.
In Friday's finale, FGCU scored runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings in a 7-1 decision.Â
Samantha Bolding put Toledo on the board with an RBI double in the sixth inning, her 15
th RBI of the season. The Rockets recorded seven hits against the Eagles, their 10
th game with seven or more hits this season.Â

How It Happened
- Columbia struck first, scoring two runs in the second off an RBI single.
- The Lions were held scoreless in the final four innings. Jenna Bloomfield knocked a single through the left side in the top of the seventh, but the Rockets were unable to plate any runs.
- FGCU took an early 2-0 lead off an RBI double and RBI triple in the second.
- The Eagles scored three runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 7-0.
- Samantha Bolding hit an RBI double to left center to put the Rockets on the board, 7-1, but Toledo was unable to rally anymore.

Toledo will continue play at the FGCU Classic on Saturday. The Rockets will face FGCU at 11:00 a.m. and Lehigh at 4:00 p.m.
