Right-hander tossed 4.2 scoreless innings and struck out seven on Monday
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Toledo right-handed pitcher Logan Jones has been named the Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Week for his performance in a Rocket victory against High Point, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Â
He earned his second save of the season in Toledo's 5-3 victory in the series finale over High Point, sending the Panthers to their first loss of the season.
Â
Jones shut down High Point over the final 4.2 innings on Monday, allowing no runs on two hits and one walk, and striking out seven. He did not allow an extra-base hit in his outing. Jones' seven-strikeout effort marked a new career high.
Â
The senior retired 13 of the 16 batters that he faced, including 10 straight from the fifth through the eighth innings. HPU threatened in the bottom of the ninth, putting two runners on with one out to bring the winning run to the plate, but Jones slammed the door with a fielder's choice and a strikeout.
Â
For the season, the Milton, Ga. native has totaled 8.0 innings without allowing an earned run in three appearances. He has 11 strikeouts to just three walks, and opponents are batting just .207 against him.
Â
Toledo has taken both of the league's Pitcher of the Week honors this season, with RJ Shunck earning the award last week.
Â
The Rockets are back in action at the Central Virginia Challenge this weekend, taking on defending Atlantic 10 champion VCU, William & Mary and Richmond.
