TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo senior wide receiver
Jerjuan Newton was named to the watch list for the 2024 Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year.
The award honors one college football student-athlete who has demonstrated a record of leadership by exhibiting exceptional courage, integrity and sportsmanship both on and off the field.
Newton, just the second Rocket ever to be named a team captain three times, is a two-time All-MAC honoree. He has 16 receptions for 223 yards and four touchdowns through four games this season, and ranks in the top 15 in the three major career receiving categories: 25 TD receptions (T-2
nd), 150 receptions (13
th) and 2,117 receiving yards (13
th). A native of St. Petersburg, Fla., Newton earned his degree in mechanical engineering technology in 2023.
Twenty semifinalists for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year will be announced on Oct. 22. Three finalists will be named for the award on Monday, Dec. 16. The winner will be announced at the award ceremony at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Feb. 12, 2025.
