Toledo Finishes Ninth Among Nation's Top Programs at Inverness Intercollegiate

Senior CJ van Wyk leads Rockets by tying for 14th place
TOLEDO, Ohio – Senior CJ van Wyk tied for 14th place to lead the Toledo men's golf team to a ninth-place finish at the Inverness Intercollegiate. van Wyk birdied his final hole to finish at one-under par 68 today and at two-over par 209 during the 54-hole tournament at the par-69, 6,972-yard Inverness Club.
Junior Mads Jensen was two strokes behind van Wyk at four-over par 211 (72-67-72) and tied for 23rd place. Freshman Bence Bertenyi (T-50th/80-70-66=216) carded the Rockets' best round of the tournament today by registering seven birdies to finish with a three-under par 66.
Rounding out the Toledo's lineup were sophomores Marijn Hoogeveen (T-66th/74-70-75=219) and Mason Deal (85th/77-77-74=228).
"We have seen a lot of improvement from our entire team since opening our season at the start of September," Head Coach Jeff Roope said. "There were certainly a lot of bright spots during the last two days and a lot for on which we can build. We showed we can compete against some of the nation's top programs, and we're going to use that as motivation to keep improving throughout the course of our season."
Freshman Julius Lange (T-23rd/72-69-70=211) and junior Bence Kotel (T-28th/71-72-69=212) led the Rockets competing as individuals. Senior Jamie Butler tied for 38th place at seven-over par 214 (73-72-69), while junior Arav Patel tied for 66th place at 12-over par 219 (74-70-75).
Virginia (826) captured the team title by rallying from an eight-stroke deficit entering the final round to edge defending national champion Auburn (830) by four strokes. The Tigers' Jackson Koivun earned medalist honors at nine-under par 198 (63-65-70).
