Maxen Hook Selected to Jim Thorpe Award Watch List

TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo football safety Maxen Hook was named to the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award 2024 Preseason Watch List among 42 of the nation's best defensive backs on Wednesday .

The senior was selected to the watch list for the first time and was just one of three selections from the Mid-American Conference. Hook was also named to the Bronco Nagurski Trophy preseason watch list for the second year in a row on Tuesday and was named to the East-West Shrine Bowl Watch List last week.

Hook's selection also marked back-to-back seasons a Rocket has been selected for the Jim Thorpe watch list. All-American cornerback Quinyon Mitchell was named to the preseason list before the 2023 season.

Hook totaled 69 tackles including 37 solo stops, despite missing five games last year due to injury. He also produced four pass breakups, a team-high three interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

A group of 15 semifinalists will be selected on Tuesday, Oct. 29, followed by three finalists on Tuesday, Nov. 26. The winner will be announced on Thursday, Dec. 12 at the Home Depot College Football Awards.
