Darius Alexander, Maxen Hook, Jerjuan Newton and Anthony Torres named to preseason list
TOLEDO, Ohio - Seniors Jerjuan Newton, Maxen Hook, Darius Alexander and Anthony Torres have been named to the East-West Shrine Bowl 1000 list, the organization announced this week.
The East-West Shrine Bowl is an all-star event that will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on January 30, 2025. The watch list is a preview of college players who are currently all-star game eligible for the 2025 East-West Shrine Bowl and 2025 NFL Draft class. Every year, approximately 1000 all-star game-eligible players are drafted, signed after the draft, or attend a rookie mini-camp.
Former Rockets Quinyon Mitchell and Dallas Gant were chosen for last year's East-West Shrine Bowl.
Newton was a first-team All-MAC selection in 2023 after making the second team in 2022. He paced the Rockets with 52 receptions, 696 receiving yards and nine TDs last season.Â
Hook is a three-time All-MAC safety who had a big year in 2023 despite missing five games due to injury. He had 70 tackles and led the team with three interceptions, earning first-team All-MAC honors for the second year in a row.Â
Alexander, a third-team All-MAC pick at defensive tackle in 2023, had 36 tackles and 4.0 sacks in 2023.
Torres, a tight end, caught 26 passes for 464 yards in 2023, earning second-team All-MAC honors.Â
Toledo is coming off an 11-3 season which featured an 11-game win streak, a second-straight appearance in the MAC Championship game, and an appearance in the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl. The Rockets will open the 2024 season with "The Biggest Party in Toledo" on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m. against Duquesne at the Glass Bowl.
