Rockets open MAC season hosting preseason favorite Miami on Oct. 5
CANTON, Ohio – The Toledo football team has been picked to finish in second place in the Mid-American Conference in a vote by the league's head coaches. The preseason poll was released today at the conference's annual Football Media Day held at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
Toledo received three first-place votes for a total of 109 points. Miami, which had nine first-place votes and 119 points, was picked to repeat as MAC Champions. Ten coaches picked Miami to win the MAC Championship Game, while two selected Toledo. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
Under the new championship format, the MAC is no longer divided into two divisions. The top two teams in the standings will face off in the MAC Championship Game at Ford Field in Detroit on Saturday, Dec. 7. Toledo will host Miami in the MAC opener on Saturday, Oct. 5 in its annual Homecoming game.Â
The Rockets will open their season with "The Biggest Party in Toledo" on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m. against Duquesne at the Glass Bowl.
Toledo is coming off an 11-3 season which featured an 11-game win streak, a second-straight appearance in the MAC Championship game, and an appearance in the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl. The Rockets return six All-MAC selections, including first-team wide receiver Jerjuan Newton, running back/kickoff returner Jacquez Stuart and safety Maxen Hook.
