TOLEDO, Ohio – Senior Pawit Sornlaksup will make Toledo history next week as the first Rocket to compete at the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships as an individual in Stillwater, Okla. Hosted by Oklahoma State University, the singles and doubles team championships will follow the team championships at the Greenwood Tennis Center on Monday-Saturday, May 20-25.

The reigning Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, Sornlaksup enters the tournament with a career-high No. 65 ranking in the country and was one of 15 automatic qualifiers in the 64-field singles bracket competing for an NCAA title. His most recent competition was a three-set defeat (7-5, 2-6, 4-6) to No. 95 Kenta Miyoshi in Toledo's 4-1 loss to Illinois in the first round of the team championships on May 3 in Lexington, Ky.  

Sornlaksup was named MAC Player of the Year for the third consecutive year, becoming the second Rocket in program history to earn the conference honor in three consecutive years. He also received his third first-team All-MAC selection, a third MAC All-Tournament pick, and back-to-back MAC Tournament MVP awards. Sornlaksup clinched both match points against Western Michigan in the 2023 and 2024 MAC Championship Tournament title matches to punch UT's ticket into the national tournament.

Sornlaksup vs. NCAA Qualifiers This Year

• Sornlaksup defeated Mathis Bondaz (VCU) in two sets at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic in September.
• Sornlaksup defeated Karlos Ozolins (ILL) in three sets and fell to Jack Anthrop (OSU) in two sets at the ITA Midwest Regionals in mid-October.
• Cannon Kingsley (OSU) ended Sornlaksup's 45-match winning streak in dual competition in a three-set decision (1-6, 7-5, 9-11) on Jan. 24, a streak that stretched over two years.
• Sornlaksup won the first match 7-6 and was ahead 5-1 in the second against Sebastian Dominko (Notre Dame) before the match was ruled unfinished on Feb. 11.

Sornlaksup will not know his first-round opponent until the conclusion of the team championships on Sunday evening.
