Rockets Claw Past Bobcats in 1-0 Victory

Agnes Stenlund records eight-save shutout and Brooklyn Whitehead scores in 40th minute

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's soccer team scored a first-half goal and held the lead over the final 50 minutes in a 1-0 Mid-American Conference victory over league co-leader Ohio at Chessa Field on Thursday.

The Rockets (6-6-3, 3-3-2/11 pts. MAC) got a 40th-minute goal from junior Brooklyn Whitehead, who scored in her second consecutive match to give Toledo consecutive wins in conference play for the first time this season. UT also handed the Bobcats (9-2-4, 4-1-3/15 pts. MAC) their first conference defeat.

Whitehead now has two goals this season and four points on the year. Junior Agnes Stenlund made a season-high eight saves for the shutout victory.

"I'm very proud of our group tonight," said Head Coach Mark Batman. "We have had a ton of injuries to overcome and our players have stepped right in and grinded. Tonight was a huge road win for us."

  • 71' | Olivia Dault, Kaema Amachree and Kayla Flory combined to create an opportunity in the center of the box, but the goalkeeper dove to save Flory's shot.
  • 83' | After a free kick, the Rockets' defense stood firm on a free ball in the box, blocking a shot before clearing the second ball.
  • 86' | A Bobcat cross hit the crossbar, and the ensuing header from right in front of the Toledo net missed over the goal.
