Rockets Ranked No.7 in Year-End Midwest Regional Rankings

Cassie Alcala and Shalini Tallamraju were ranked No. 16 and No. 20 in singles
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its year-end Division I Women's Collegiate Tennis Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point on Friday, and the Toledo women's tennis team finished at No.7 in the Midwest Region. Additionally, Cassie Alcala and Shalini Tallamraju were ranked as the No. 16 and No. 20 singles players, respectively, in the Midwest Region.
The team ranking is the highest for the MAC Champions in program history, after finishing No. 8 following the 2021-22 season. UT finished the season as the No. 71 program in the final ITA national poll, and No. 17 in the Mid-Major Team rankings.
The Midnight Blue and Gold set the standard for the program this season with its first Mid-American Conference regular-season title, a program-best 20 wins with an undefeated 10-0 record in conference play, and spent nine-consecutive weeks on the ITA Division I Women's Tennis Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
Individually, Alcala and Tallamraju are the only two players in the singles rankings not from a Power Five program. Â
Alcala, the two-time MAC Player of the Year, finished the season with a 19-5 overall record and went 8-2 against MAC opponents from the No. 1 court. Alcala's ranking is the highest ever by a Rocket, after she was ranked No. 12 last season. The Pickerington, Ohio native started the season on a 14-match winning streak, and clinched match point on five occasions.
A second-team All-MAC honoree, Tallamraju led the Rockets with a team-best 20-3 record mostly from the No. 3 court, was 10-0 against MAC opponents, and ended the season on a 12-match winning streak. Â Tallamraju's efforts also earned her a spot on the MAC All-Tournament Team.
